Laboratory of lighting and photometry
Laboratory of lighting and photometry is one of the oldest Slovenian measurement laboratories. It was established in 1921 as part of the Department of Electrical Engineering in scope of the Faculty of Engineering.
Laboratory staff conducts research, teaching and professional work in two closely related fields. Our first area of interest is lighting. We are engaged in research on lamps, luminaires and their use. In recent years, we are working mostly on development of high energy efficient luminaires with light emitting diodes (LEDs) and other modern light sources. We also work on the use of natural light for interior illumination. In addition, lighting design and lighting calculations are performed for interior and exterior spaces. We are also consultants for almost all major Slovenian lighting companies.
Our second area of interest is photometry - the measurement of light as perceived by human eyes. In the laboratory we are performing virtually all photometric measurements: measurement of luminous flux, optical bench and gonio-photometrical measurements of luminance, illuminance and luminance measurements with portable instruments and spectroradiometers. These allow also the measurement of the spectrum, color temperature and color rendering index of light sources. We also perform calibration of luminance and illuminance meters and develop photometric measurement equipment for our laboratory and our clients.
Students can join our lectures and laboratory exercises carried out in various undergraduate and postgraduate courses in the field of lighting and lighting techniques. Of course they can also work on their Bachelor, Master or Doctoral thesis in our laboratory and they are also invited to join our research and project work.
