Subject description

Prerequisits:

  • Enrollment in the study year.

Content (Syllabus outline):

Communication between human and machine: a historical overview, the presentation of applications, user attitudes, user-tailored approach to communication. Characteristics of terminal equipment: connectivity, structure, functionality, modularity. Hardware and software terminals: operating systems, programming languages. Compliance with standards: the input / output interfaces, displays, identification of the user. Overview of selected terminals: mobile terminals, soft terminals, TV terminals, hybrids, analysis of some cases. Analysis and planning of systems: consumer electronics, multimedia terminals, communication terminals. Convergence of terminals. The user experience: user modeling, user adaptation, virtual groups. User interface design: ergonomics, user preferences, user-friendly interface. Selected areas of application: finding information, entertainment, eLearning, eHealth, interpersonal communication, community, smart home.

Objectives and competences:

Knowledge of the structure and functionality of terminal devices and an understanding of the importance of user interfaces. Knowledge of key elements of the terminal equipment. Customization of terminals for user requirements and personal needs. Understanding and determining the user requirements. Understanding the overall structure and functionality of electronic devices.

Intended learning outcomes:

Understanding the problem of modeling, basics of interpersonal communication, electronics and basic understanding of interactive communications procedures.

Learning and teaching methods:

Lectures with theoretical concepts and practical-oriented laboratory exercises with the possibility of working in groups.
