Subject description
Prerequisits:

Content (Syllabus outline):
Video signals:
- History of the development of technologies for recording images and moving images,
- Image (SD and HD) and pixel formats, image sensors formats
- characteristics and shortcomings of light sensors (resolution, bit depth, dynamic range, light sensitivity, noise, time resolution, Bayer pattern, color interpolation, antialiasing, demosaicing)
- differences between analog and digital technology for recording images, negative / positive process
- storage media and formats for the archiving of video and audio (advantages and disadvantages)
- the concept of mixing video signals in linear and nonlinear systems (masking signal, video mixer, non-linear editing)
- television camera (features, components, functionality, focal length, focus, recording techniques), lighting, aperture, shutter speed, EV, light meter, depth sharpness, lens defects,
- light, light effects, color temperature, light sources and their color spectrum, filters and their application, flash accessories
- illuminating the subject and object, the number and type of lights, fill-in, buffers, measuring light to the source of light, the coordination of multiple light sources.
Audio signals:
- operation of the microphone, microphone types and purposes
- equipment for recording and reproducing sound
- editing audio files
- mixing and control equipment
- sound effects
- approaches to sound recording
Acoustics:
- principle of studio operation (instruments and sources in the studio, mixing video and audio)
- equipment for archiving video and sound
- modules for transmitting signals (broadcast, Internet broadcast).
Objectives and competences:
The purpose of this course is to acquaint students with the structure, performance, opportunities and limitations of equipment in the audio and video production. In class, students will learn the basic characteristics of devices in the AV production, recording techniques and theory. They will learn about different types of AV production, and processes and configurations of studio techniques. Students will also meet with the fundamentals of acoustics, or audio, for video. In the laboratory they will learn the practical application of techniques and approaches. Laboratory work is conducted in cooperation with production companies.
Intended learning outcomes:
Understanding the operation of the studio equipment and recording techniques in terms of capturing content (audio and video signals), connectivity with other devices, systems for mixing signals and formats used. Ways to store content and broadcasting through different transmission media. Mastering the basics of acoustical environments in practice.
