Subject description

Prerequisits:

  • Enrollment in the study year.

Content (Syllabus outline):

The characteristics of mobile systems (spectrum, radio channel, cellular networks, radio resource and mobility management, handover and roaming, signaling, protection and security). The development of commercial mobile networks towards 4G (standardization, voice and data networks, services and technologies, protocols, GSM, GPRS, UMTS). Wireless and mobile data networks (Mobile IP, Wi-Fi, Wi-Max, DVB-H). Personal networks (DECT, Bluetooth, ZigBee, UWB). The convergence of mobile and fixed networks. Identification Systems (RFID, NFC). Telematics and telematics systems (services, communication, location and processing, integration of information and communication technologies in transport and vehicles, intelligent transport systems).

Objectives and competences:

Overview and understanding the characteristics, foundations of operation and development of mobile and telematics systems and services. As the course may also be enrolled by students in other disciplines, it will not lean on the specific telecommunications knowledge.

Intended learning outcomes:

Emphasis will be on understanding the principles and gaining fundamental knowledge about mobile and telematics technologies.

Learning and teaching methods:

  • Lectures and laboratory work.
  • The type of the examination will be of type "multiple answer questions".
  • Oral examination in the form of a comprehensive discussion on the matter.
