Prerequisits:
Content (Syllabus outline):
Basic concepts related to communications and telecommunications. Information society and information sources. The use of information resources and information and communication services in education. Communication channel model. Digital data transmission. The time course of communication. The importance of telecommunications layers, stack, protocols; OSI reference model and TCP / IP stack. Synchronous / asynchronous data transmission. Basic concepts of communication systems: multiplexing and switching, circuit and packet switching communication, connection and connectionless communication. Synchronization, control of transmission, signaling. Network level, addressing, routing. Network carrier services: wired systems, wireless systems, broadband, mobility. System design, performance of circuit switched systems, performance and traffic characteristics of packet systems, systems losses, queue, ensuring quality of service, reliability, availability. Introduction of mobile communications systems and services. Architecture and service platforms. Classic Internet services environment. Converged services, video, voice, interactivity. Fundamentals of interactive multimedia features and services, and broadcasting.
Objectives and competences:
The course gives basic knowledge of communications systems that are necessary for future engineers, technical professionals. The course consists of theoretical foundation, which is linked to the practical knowledge and environments in real projects. The substance is integrated, interesting for all students of electrical engineering, but the basis for attending the technical subjects in higher levels of study program..
